Bulgaria joins the euro - changes to Bulgarian lev (BGN)
In 2026, Bulgaria will adopt the euro (EUR) as its official currency, replacing the Bulgarian lev (BGN). As a result, Equals Money will not offer BGN after 26th November 2025.
What this means for you:
- After this date, you’ll no longer be able to create or receive any new payments, conversions, or card transactions involving BGN.
- Any BGN balance you hold in your Equals Money account will be automatically converted to euros at a rate of 1.95583 BGN to 1 EUR between 26th and 28th November.
- Any saved BGN recipients on your account will be automatically converted to be EUR recipients.
You don’t need to take any action, the changes will be automatic.
